WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF CLADDING?

Cladding sheets have become a modern material in both commercial and residential construction and maintaining them effectively has become just as vital as the initial installations.

There are many types of cladding material and the team here at Alucobond Ghana have discussed each one in detail for your benefit.

So, What Are Cladding Sheets?

To most people who are unaware of the usage that follows cladding systems, they will assume that they are simply large metallic sheets that are installed onto the commercial framework.

In a way, you would be correct, however, cladding sheets and structures have a greater importance and should not be pushed to one side as a basic tool. Cladding sheets are external finishing materials whereby its sole purpose is to ensure that the commercial or residential building they are secured to is correctly protected.

99% of cladding systems have the capability to be decorated further, meeting commercial organizations branding and decorative requirements. This is completed through on-site paint spraying using a variety of application methods.

Every metallic cladding sheet that is installed can be considered extremely durable. Each sheet has the potential to last up to fifty years, providing that the materials are well maintained through proper cladding refurbishment and maintenance.

What Cladding Maintenance Systems Should I Use?

Just like a car – there are many forms of maintenance available, and some more important than others. For example, a car will need an annual MOT or a basic service to ensure that it is running correctly.

Cladding sheets and structures need to have annual assessments (usually completed by an employed maintenance manager) arranged to ensure that the materials are not showing any signs of wear. If there are any issues that are identified need to be rectified as soon as possible.

The most common forms of cladding maintenance currently in use throughout the Ghana are cladding cleaning and full on-site paint restoration.

Types of Cladding Available

As we mentioned previously, there are many forms of cladding sheets and products available. It is vital that you have the most suitable form of cladding installed to your building. This makes it easier to maintain and generally lasts a lot longer.

These are the forms of cladding sheets available for installation on commercial and residential sites.

Weatherboard Cladding

When cladding is mentioned, this is traditionally what comes to mind. However, weatherboard cladding is extremely durable and can be installed to a variety of substrates, which makes it perfect for commercial usage.

Like any form of cladding; weatherboard cladding needs annual maintenance to ensure that it is kept at its best condition.

Timber Cladding

Timber based cladding panels are very popular as they give off the feel of traditional timber frames. These are popular is residential structures such as outbuildings. These popular panels can be purchased as boards, shingles and panels.

Stone Cladding

This is another form of cladding installation that is traditionally discussed around residential buildings. The solid stone structure can provide an elegant, natural feel, which is a popular selling point for many cladding providers.

The one real disappointment of stone cladding is the financial costs that are involved. Stone cladding is very expensive and is rarely used on commercial installations due to various budgets restricting them.

Vinyl Cladding Systems

If you can find a cladding system that requires little or no maintenance, then your facilities manager or site manager will love you. Fortunately, the vinyl cladding sheets that we are discussing here do exactly that.

Vinyl sheets require little effort in regard to building maintenance, and as such, it is advised that you use quality alucobond vinyl cladding materials from top alucobond material suppliers in Ghana. All that you are required to do on a regular basis is provided on-site cladding cleaning to ensure that the debris does not get caught up.

Another bonus to vinyl cladding is that it is relatively easy to add insulation. Alucobond Ghana has recently started installing insulated cladding panels.

Fiber Cement Cladding

This is a fairly low-cost form of cladding sheet. The fiber cement is a combination of compressed sand, cement and cellular fiber. This is another popular form of low-cost cladding as it is easy to install and maintain.

External Foam Cladding Systems

This can sometimes be referred to as external insulated cladding. It is constructed from expanded polystyrene, reinforced by fiberglass and fitted in the form of a traditional panel.

Foam cladding systems are easy to install and have been known to be extremely weather resistant as well as very energy efficient.

Metal Cladding

This is arguably the most common form of cladding installed on commercial business parks across the Ghana. Alucobond Ghana has a tremendous amount of experience completing cladding panel repairs to metal cladding.

Unfortunately, metal cladding is suspect to cut edge corrosion. Should this occur, a cut edge corrosion treatment will be required. However, a benefit to metal cladded systems is that they can be decorated to any preference.

Concrete Cladding

This form of cladding installation is fairly new and modern. These cladding structures come in the form of cladded tiles and take longer to install. These cladded tiles are very strong, durable and require small amounts of annual maintenance.

Brick Cladding Systems

If you need a cladding system that can be adapted in terms of looks – a bricked cladding system is exactly what you need. These new systems can be specifically designed and carved into patterns using a variety of bricks.

Many installers enjoy working with brickwork cladding as they are easy to install and the ongoing maintenance requires so little effort. As well as the previous benefits, bricked cladding has proven to be a fantastic insulator and makes them extremely popular for residential installations.

Cladding

Each type of cladding is used for different reasons and can be used to not only make your property structurally sound but also make it look more aesthetically pleasing.
